Community Activities

Digital World Biology is a strong supporter of science education at all levels. With support from the National Science Foundation, we assisted in developing bioinformatics curriculum for high schools and popular bioinformatics tutorials that are used in both college and high school classes. We have shared these materials at several Bio-Link workshops, and at workshops sponsored by CCURI, Tulsa Community College (SEEDBed award), and Del Mar College.  Digital World Biology also partnered with the Amgen Biotech Experience at Shoreline Community College to assist in providing professional development opportunities for high school teachers.


Amgen Biotech Experience

Digital World Biology has been working with Shoreline Community College to provide professional development for teachers in biotechnology and bioinformatics.

Bio-ITEST

Through the Bio-ITEST project, Digital World Biology worked with the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR) and the EdLab Group to develop curricular materials and prepare high school teachers to infuse bioinformatics materials into their courses. Through Bio-ITEST, we created two curricular strands: a unit for beginners that covers genetic testing and an advanced strand that explores DNA barcoding and evolution.  Both strands include career explorations and bioethics components that cover topics such as genetic testing and funding for research into rare genetic disorders.
